Tommy Voeten, Owner and President of 1212-Studio, Inc. in New York City, is a visionary award-winning designer of energy-efficient lighting products for live events, architecture, retail, theatre and urban environments. For more than a decade, Tommy has clearly proven his expertise in the innovation and advancement in LED lighting technology.

In 2000, Tommy, along with two colleagues, started Xilver, b.v., a manufacturing and product design company in The Netherlands. Under Tommy’s direction as Founder and President, Xilver introduced the world to products and solutions with high-brightness LED technology for the use in retail, entertainment and architectural markets. In 2003, Xilver received the Best of Category Award at Lightfair International for the Droplet, the first and smallest moving light with ground-breaking color-combining and high-brightness LED technology. The following year, Xilver designed a custom LED solution for the landmark Galleria Department Store in Seoul in conjunction with UN-studio and Arup Lighting. This world-renowned project was featured on the cover of several international lighting and architecture magazines and received a number of prestigious awards. The technology used in lighting and controlling the Galleria facade set a new standard in LED architectural applications.

Seeing the growing need for custom-designed LED products, Tommy moved to New York City and began consulting for lighting designers, architects and manufacturers. In 2006, he founded 1212-Studio, Inc. His mission: To provide custom solutions for lighting designers, video artists, architects, engineers and fabricators. In recent years, as the call for energy-efficient lighting has grown rapidly and globally, 1212-Studio’s list of clients has continued to expand and diversify. As a true leader in his field, Tommy continues to exceed his clients’ expectations for creative, efficient, sustainable and original lighting product designs.

Getting back to his roots in manufacturing, early in 2012, Tommy opened a design studio and workshop in Long Island City, a quick 15 minute car-ride from the company’s corporate headquarters in Manhattan. A brand new facility with top-of-the-line CNC machinery and a full staff of experts in software engineering, lighting architecture, product assembly and industry marketing, 1212-Studio is poised to produce the finest quality custom products, all proudly made in the USA.
